the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, the College

the College of Information Studies and the School
of Public Policy - is ranked among the 25 best

national and international concern. The University's
location near the center of federal policy-making
and international political and economic activity
enables it to play an active role in the research and
analysis of public policy. Strong links with scientific
technological and federal government agencies help drive research in the environment,
engineering, physics, computer science, life sciences
and agriculture. Scholarships in the arts, humanities
and social sciences are marked by academic
diversity and interdisciplinary collaboration.
QUALITY EDUCATION
The University's commitment to quality education
in a research environment is the key to its academic
excellance and success of its graduates. More

most pressing challenges in their discipline
and training them to respond with rigor as well
as creativity to contemporary issues.

its Alumni. Freshmen admission is
highly competitive. Last year, 25,000 applications
were received for only 4,100 places in the Fall
2006 semester. Once students complete their
academic journey, they will join a rapidly growing
Alumni proudly called Terps.
