MASTERS OF ARTS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The University of Maryland in the United States and SHINES
College of Singapore are collaborating to offer a Master's
Degree in Criminal Justice in Singapore.
The Master's Degree program in Criminal Justice from the
United States is the first of its kind in Singapore.
Mission
The mission of this program is to improve public safety
by increasing the capacity of criminal justice personnel
to identify and solve problems.
In recent years, criminal justice professionals are facing
new demands for analytic rigor in crime analysis and crime
prevention planning. The new Professional MA in Criminal
Justice reflects increasing demands for graduate-level
instruction bridging the gap between science and policy,
research and implementation.
Objectives
The specific objectives of the program are for students
to learn the following specific skills:

Analyzing agency data to identify
high priority crime prevention objectives; |

Reviewing criminological literature
to identify possible ways to reduce crime: planning
and implementing innovative solutions to crime problems,
and |

Evaluating both the implementation
and impact of agency efforts to reduce crime. |
Structure & Duration
The University of Maryland's Professional Masters of Arts
in Criminal Justice is a 30 credits degree program designed
to train both mid-career and pre-career students for management
analysis and research in criminal justice agency settings.
Mode of Study
The full-time course duration is 2 years. The mode of
study is a combination of classroom lectures and self-study
sessions. All courses are conducted at SHINES College
in Singapore by the faculty from University of Maryland.
Enrolment
2 enrolments per year - June and December.
Class size is limited to 50 students.
EXCHANGE PROGRAM IN THE US
One of the major advantages to our educational program
is that our students will have the opportunity (optional)
to travel to the University of Maryland in the United
States during the course of their studies with us to conduct
a six month long attachment to the University of Maryland's
College Park campus. To facilitate this, the University
of Maryland will provide all students with the necessary
"J-1" student visa form which will allow them
to enter the United States once approved; a "J-1"
student visa allows students the ability to work on campus
as well as bring their spouse and children with them during
their stay.
